St. Charles/St. Louis Photographer

Most of you probably don't know that I was in the Navy."In the navy Yes, you can sail the seven seas, In the navy Yes, you can put your mind at ease In the navy...oh yes, I just totally busted out singing The Village People, don't hate;) So, I left for book camp fresh out of high school and actually meet my husband in boot camp. He kind of stalked me actually but I digress...another story for another day. Anyway because my husband was a corpsman in the Navy & the Marine Corp doesn't have medical personnel they borrow the Navy's so at our last duty station we ended up at Camp LeJuene in Jacksonville, N.C. This was the best duty station ever! Best boss ever. Best Friends ever. We were harbor patrol and it was awesome. Life was filled with crab boils, beaches, and just hanging out with a little bit of work mixed in. This past weekend a few of us went down to Key West to visit each other and our old boss who has turned into the ultimate hippy complete with crazy beard. Dude is from Virginia but looks like a local(wish I had pictures to show you but that's kind of hard when the host is missing!)...anyway he overbooked himself and was unable to there. Yes, our host that invited us down was 9 hrs away at a bluegrass festival with his family. Anyway, free place to stay in Key West can't be beat! So we proceeded to head to the beach and was told only one good spot to swim because the rest of the water is filled with MRSA! WooHoo!!! That's great news to here. How um freaking scary!!! So needless to say I never stepped foot in the water. Then it was on to Duval Street which is like Bourbon Street on crack. Naked, old but very tan men riding bikes. Very drunk college students. Half naked middle age people obviously having a mid life crisis (my take on things anyway). I refrained from picture taking at these moments and believe me you should thank me! Then we went on an open aired bus spooky history tour at night where we learned about Haint paint on porch ceilings which supposedly keeps evil spirits away. It's a beautiful color! And all over Key West and the south! We saw a woman with a flowing sheet being held up in the air standing naked by the road looking out at the beach. Not really sure what that was about....her version of air conditioning maybe?! All this on the way to see Robert the doll who is being held in one of the old forts in Key West. You better ask permission before you take pictures. Just sayin'! Creepy story!!! And the chickens. Holy Chickens Batman!!! They are everywhere down there. I think there may be more chickens than people. And they walk around like they own the place. At one point a black chicken crossed the road in front of us and I remember saying "I wonder if it's bad luck for black chicken to cross in front of us, lol!" Sadly my one chicken picture turned out blurry:( And Did you know that phone booths still exist? They do, and I have proof! Oh, and the pirate bread. So yummy! If you are ever down in Key West head to Mallory Square around sunset and find some pirate bread. You won't be sorry! So yummy! Oh, and watch the gorgeous sunset too! So enough crazy Key West talk. Here are a few pictures I took along the way just to remember the place by. Excuse how odd they way be. They were what I was drawn too! Enjoy!

Beautiful, beautiful pictures, Jennifer. I don't know what the second picture is of, but it's a cool picture! Love the coconut heads and the pay phones.
